How to become a Yoga Instructor
Have you ever thought of becoming a yoga instructor? If you are reading this, you probably have, but sometimes jumping into a new career can be scary.
Maybe you come from a corporate job, or fresh out of school. Whatever your background, here is what you need to know about becoming a yoga instructor
1.Find the right school for you
First thing you need to consider is obtaining a Yoga Teacher Training Certification. You can choose to do a 200 hour Teacher Training in your home country or travel abroad. Taking the time off from your busy life is highly recommended as a 200h certification typically only takes 3 weeks. This will allow you to have an immersive experience into the world of yoga as well as discovering the culture and beauty of an exotic country.
Now that you know where you want to do your teacher training, time to figure out which school is the most suitable for you. Yoga Alliance is a good place to start. You want to make sure that the school and certification is recognized by Yoga Alliance as it guarantees a level of quality that is recognized worldwide.
What style of yoga do you want to learn? You can search for Vinyasa, Yin, Hatha, Ashtanga or even a combination of these.
Visit a few sites and feel the vibe. Research the faculty and read the reviews. See which one speaks to you and follow your intuition. Make your selection and get ready to embark on your journey.
2.Find your style
Throughout your 200h certification you will learn about different yoga styles but also about different ways of teaching. Following the guidelines of what makes a good yoga instructor, it’s now time to find your style, your voice. Make it your own.
What defines you as a yoga instructor. It can be your personality, your creative sequences, your cool playlist or even the small attention you give during the class. Whatever it is, be authentic and let yourself shine.
3.Start teaching right away
Upon the completion of your 200h Teacher Training it is very important that you start teaching in the following 2 weeks. This is crucial to be a successful yoga teacher. Having everything you’ve learned still fresh in your mind, you need to go out there and share it with the world. You can start by teaching classes to your friends and family to gain practice and confidence. The more you wait to start teaching, the higher the chances you never will, so don’t waste all that knowledge and experience and make it happen!
4.Find your tribe
You will make long lasting friendships with your fellow students and faculty during your Yoga Teacher Training, but it’s also important to find your yoga community when you get back home. This will allow you to exchange with other yogis and create contacts for possible job opportunities.
5.Share the love
Now that you’ve learned and experienced all that yoga can offer go out there and share the love. Decide on where and how you want to teach. Do you want to teach in a studio, teach private classes, lead yoga retreats or even aspire to become a Yoga Teacher Training teacher one day. Aim high and share your passion!
